Meet Jedi Knight: The IP & Litigation Expert Who Hates Bullies
By INK Law | Ivy · Newburn · Knight
IP Attorney · Litigation Attorney · Patent Attorney · Trademark Attorney · B2B Litigation Counsel
Some lawyers avoid the courtroom. Jedi Knight walks toward it.
Jedi is INK’s founding partner for intellectual property, litigation, and innovation counsel — and if you ask anyone who’s worked with him, they’ll tell you the same thing before they mention a single credential: Jedi cannot stand a bully.
That’s not a personality quirk. It’s the engine behind almost everything he does professionally.
A Fighter With a Physics Degree
Jedi’s path into law isn’t the usual one. He holds a B.S. in Physics from Brigham Young University in Idaho, and a Juris Doctor from the J. Reuben Clark Law School, also at BYU-Idaho. That technical foundation — hands-on experience developing software programs, a mind trained to think in systems — is part of what makes him dangerous in IP work. He’s named on approximately 70 patents. That’s not a typo. Seventy. It’s the kind of number that tells you he doesn’t just understand patent law in theory; he’s lived inside the invention process itself, over and over.
He’s licensed in Utah and Colorado, admitted to the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, and registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Before INK, Jedi served as general counsel for a power sports company, where he handled everything from patents and trademarks to full-scale litigation and contract negotiation. He led two major fundraising rounds — including filing an S-1 for an IPO and executing a private equity raise — and managed outside counsel, which means he’s seen the legal world from both sides of the table: as the client and as the attorney.
Litigation Is the Favorite
Ask Jedi which part of the job he likes best, and litigation wins every time.
There’s a reason. Jedi has zero tolerance for bullies — corporate, individual, doesn’t matter. When a bigger company tries to steamroll a smaller one, when someone tries to take credit for work that isn’t theirs, when a business gets pushed around because the other side assumes nobody’s going to fight back — that’s exactly the fight Jedi wants.
He’s drafted and managed litigation from start to finish: court appearances, motion drafting, the whole process. And he brings the same intensity to it that you’d expect from someone who reportedly never leaves the house without a baseball cap. Jedi isn’t trying to look like a different version of a lawyer. He just is one.
The Writer Behind “Anecdotes in INK”
There’s another side to Jedi that doesn’t show up on a typical attorney bio: he’s a writer.
Jedi is the voice behind INK’s “Anecdotes in INK” series — narrative-driven blog pieces inspired by his favorite author, Michael Crichton. Anyone who’s read Crichton knows the formula: a cinematic cold open, a system or process explained with precision, tight dialogue, and a story that’s actually teaching you something the whole time it’s entertaining you. Jedi brings that same instinct to legal storytelling — pulling real case dynamics into pieces that read less like a law firm blog and more like something you’d want to finish.
It tracks. Jedi’s a self-described true crime fan and a history buff. He’s wired for stories about justice, motive, and consequence — which happens to be most of what litigation actually is.
Family First
Jedi is a family man through and through — and this fall, he hits a milestone that stops even the busiest litigators in their tracks. His oldest is heading off to college. Specifically, to BYU-Idaho — Jedi’s alma mater. Hard to script that one better.
He’s been raising four kids, and when he’s not in the middle of a case, he’s with them — building Lego sets, playing football, hitting the gym, escaping to the mountains, or cooking something worth sitting down for. The man contains multitudes.
By day, Dexter the puppy is practically attached at Jedi’s hip — the two do most things together, and Dexter has been known to drop into team Zoom calls unannounced, which the firm considers a bonus feature of booking time with Jedi. He’s earned the title “Dexter, Esquire” and has not yet objected. By night, two cats take over, keeping Jedi company while he burns the midnight oil. Any attorney who works late knows the value of a warm, indifferent presence nearby. The cats deliver.
What He Does at INK
Jedi’s practice covers patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and commercial and civil litigation. If your business has something worth protecting, or someone’s trying to take something that isn’t theirs, Jedi is the partner who steps in.
He’s not interested in posturing. He’s interested in winning — and making sure the bully on the other side of the table learns that INK doesn’t back down.
